Communication support

How to help yourself

Wear your hearing aid/s.

Make sure you've got spare batteries.

Sit near the front if it's a large seminar or meeting.

Keep your back to the light so you can see the speaker.

Tell someone, arrange some extra support if you need it.

Wear a deaf badge if you're in a big group, save keep explaining.

Ask people to repeat things if you haven't heard.

Get copies of any handouts.

Ask a hearing friend or colleague to go with you

Set a good example by speaking clearly yourself, especially if you're with other deaf/hearing impaired people.

Don't cancel communication support at the last minute! You'll still have to pay the costs or at least a cancellation fee, which you can't claim back from Access to Work.
