Communication support

Where to go

Finding and booking communication support can be difficlut, mainly because there are not enough trained interpreters/lipspeakers/STTR's.

You'll need to plan ahead for at least 4-6 weeks, although you may be lucky and get a cancellation.

Charitable organisations

Charitable organisations that provide a booking service include:

RAD Interpreting Service

RNID Interpreting Service

Finding a lipspeaker

You can also see a list of available lipspeakers on the Association of Lipspeakers website.

ALS Register of lipspeakers

Asking for support to be booked

Depending on the situation it is the responsibility of the service provider to ensure you have adequate support. For example if you have a meeting, interview or appointment with:

Educational support

Disability Support Officer (college/university)

Private agencies

There are a number of private organisations that are also avalable to help book your support. However they mainly cater for BSL users.
