Free Advice Service for hard of hearing people

Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) have set up a project in partnership with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to provide email advice to D/deaf and hard of hearing people about welfare benefits.

This new pilot project is aimed particularly at hard of hearing people. To use this service you must meet the following criteria;

a) eligible for legal aid and

b) are willing to receive advice on email.

Although RAD is managing the project the advice will come direct from an LSC team in Newcastle. RAD will continue to be involved by way of monitoring progress and satisfaction and will be compiling an evaluation report at the end of the project.

The categories of benefits include:

This list is not exhaustive. The LSC can provide advice on how to fill in benefit forms, although they will not fill them in for you.

Legal Aid

To find out whether you qualify for legal aid you can use this calculator

http://www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk/

The Legal Aid Calculator allows you to find out if you could get legal aid for a civil case.

You will be asked a series of questions about your legal problem and financial situation. For reasons of data protection, none of the information entered into the calculator is saved, so it is completely confidential and anonymous.

Means test

Do you already claim one of the following benefits?

If you do, you will probbaly qualify for legal aid.

What next?

If you are eligible for legal aid and are happy to receive advice and information on email then contact RAD.

Please email advice@royaldeaf.org.uk
