Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults (ATLA)

Deafness Research UK

Deafness Research UK (The Hearing Research Trust) was set up as a registered charity in 1985 by Jack Ashley, who is profoundly deaf, and his late wife Pauline.

Lord and Lady Ashley believed that no one should have to live with unwanted hearing impairment and the key to preventing or finding a cure is through scientific and medical research.

Hearing Concern

Hearing Concern is a national charity which helps deaf and hard of hearing people to combat the isolation of hearing loss through support, advice and information.

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

Nearly nine million of the UK population experience some degree of hearing loss. That’s one person in every seven. Over 650,000 of these people are severely or profoundly deaf and could benefit from a hearing dog.

Ménière's Society

The Ménière's Society was founded in 1984 by Mrs Marie Nobbs MBE to support people with Ménière's disease and those who care for them. With increased publicity about Ménière's disease and the improved services the Society offers, membership now stands at over 5,500.

National Association of Deafened People (NADP)

The National Association of Deafened People was founded as a charity in 1984 by a group of deafened people who felt that their needs were only partly catered for by existing organisations.

Today, the NADP is recognised as the national representative organisation offering support for deafened people who have lost all or most of their useful hearing, and for their families and friends, to help them to regain their independence and enjoy the best quality of life.

National Deaf children's Society

NDCS's Visions and Values reflect the fact that it remains essentially a parents' organisation, dedicated to the needs of all deaf children, their families and carers.

Royal National Institute for Deaf people (RNID)

Treacher Collins Syndrome

The syndrome was named after an ophthalmologist called Edward Treacher Collins in 1900. It can also be known by other names such as Berry-Treacher Collins Syndrome, Franceschetti-Klein Syndrome, Franceschetti-Zwahlen Syndrome and Thomson complex. It is a condition that causes facial malformations and severe hearing loss.

Scottish Council on Deafness

We represent 90 organisations working with and on behalf of Deaf Sign Language users, Deafened, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing people. Our membership provides an effective working partnership between the Voluntary Sector, Social Work and Education Departments, NHS Trusts, Health Boards and the Government.

UK Council on Deafness

UK Council on Deafness works with and for deaf organisations in the UK by providing information, advice and support and by representing the views of the sector to government and policy makers.

Wales Council for the Deaf

The Council is the major voluntary body in Wales concerned with deafness. It is an umbrella association of organisations both voluntary and statutory working in the field of hearing loss and representing people who are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and deaf/blind.

Deaf Action (Edinburgh)

It is estimated that as many as 190,000 people experience some degree of hearing loss throughout Edinburgh, Lothian and Fife. This loss can lead to difficulties carrying out every day activities, and in some cases, feelings of isolation, embarrassment and loss of self-esteem.

Hampshire Deaf Association

Founded by Sir Arthur Fairbairn in 1879 as a "mission for deaf people", Hampshire Deaf Association has grown to be the principal source of deaf information, services and advocacy for Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.

Today, we employ over 40 people and support over 5000 Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people every year. Our constant, practical support, help and services have made a real difference to the lives of thousands of people.

Hearing Help Essex

Leeds Society for Deaf & Blind People

Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People has existed since 1866. Throughout its long history, the single objective has been to respond to the expressed needs and aspirations of deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, blind and partially sighted people.

This has been achieved by the active participation of sensory-impaired people, both as members of committees at every level and as members of staff.
